Global Gathering Festival 2010
has been packing in the partygoers since its inception in 2001.
Global Gathering is truly international festival brand, which now holds events across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the USA. This article is a quick guide to the brand's mother ship - the original UK Global Gathering festival.
What is it and where did it come from?
Global Gathering is a two-day dance festival which takes place on the last weekend in July each year on the site of the former airfield at Long Marston, near Stratford Upon Avon. As one of the UK's biggest dance festivals, Global Gathering opens its gates to over 80,000 partygoers, and features over 100 live acts and DJs spread across 16 stages. Global Gathering is the brainchild of Angel Music Group, the company behind the Godskitchen - one of the UK's most popular superclub nights.
The festival organisers pride themselves on the production standards at Global Gathering, with state-of-art sound systems pumping out a marathon of music 'til 2am, and a headphone disco taking those left standing through 'til dawn. As with any self-respecting superclub event, Global Gathering also features an extravagant VIP area, complete with Jacuzzis, private camping and campervan accommodation, and a special 'golden circle' area which offers unobstructed main stage viewing.
Who can I see at Global Gathering 2010?
VIP lounges and super-modern sound systems are one thing, but the success of any festival is in the lineup. Previous years have seen the likes of Kanye West, Mark Ronson, Tiesto, 2 Many DJs, and Eric Morillo send the crowd into raptures, but the 2010 lineup promises to eclipse all that's gone before and raise the bar higher still. Faithless and Dissee Rascal top the bill, with Paul Oakenfold, Eric Prydz, Armen Van Buuren, John Digweed, and Sasha leading the rest of the pack. The omni-present Carl Cox heads provides an old skool leaning to proceedings, with other time-served favourites such as Tall Paul providing an additional shot of nostalgia and Lisa Lashes for those that like it a little harder. New features at Global Gathering 2010 include Godskitchen's Boombox - promising an ultra-modern audiovisual experience - and the Fantazia outdoor terrace, which claims to be bringing a slice of Ibiza all the way over to Shakespeare's playground (the jury's out on this one, but here's hoping!).
What else do I need to know about Global Gathering?
Taking place in the very peak of the glorious British summer, the weather is more than often kind to Global Gathering, but it's not unheard for the clouds to open, so decent camping gear is a must - there's no heavier downpour than a midsummer downpour. The campsite area covers an area equivalent to 50 football pitches, and includes such extravagances as hot showers and an outdoor cinema. The Cloud9 VIP camping area features a range of accommodation options, from funky 'pods', through to Tepees, as well as room to pitch tents and park campervans. Other perks of the Cloud9 area include chill-out areas, goody bags, clean washrooms, and free parking. It's also worth knowing that Global Gathering always sells out, so don't just rock up with a tent under your arm and expect to blag your way in - it's not going to happen.
